I teach a lot of different yoga styles: vinyasa flow, Ashtanga, hatha, yin yoga, restorative yoga and partner yoga but the first one is and stays my favorite. I just love how one move ‘flows’ into the next one. For a teacher training in Budapest (Hongaria) I had to create a flow as well. I made this Jungle Vinyasa flow (click for video). The only pose I want to put in it, is a pigeon pose, opening up the hips.
Designing different flows is one of the things I like most. A flow based on one of the yamas or niyamas or leading up to a complicated asana. If you want to have your own flow, just let me know through the contact form and I can make you one.
Vinyasa is Sanskrit and means ‘connection’; so in Vinyasa flow we ‘connect’: we connect the poses and we connect the poses with our breathing. Mostly Vinyasa is explained as breath synchronized movement.
The energetical background is the same as in Ashtanga: by flowing from one pose into the other we create a lot of internal heat, an internal fire. This fire burns away our samskaras; our ‘bad’ imprint, behaviour patterns an old karma that is stuck in our mind and body.
The nice thing of Vinyasa is that you can give it ‘your own twist’; you can make an easy flow out of it, an intermediate or a hard flow. It’s all up to you and how your body feels. I manly love it, because of the ‘play around’ I can have in it with all different poses. What’s your favorite yoga (asana) style?
