Banana leafs cover: all we have to do now is wait till the herbs 'pop up' in our herb garden

Herb garden

Herbal teas, herbs to spice up food and herbs as medicine. I’m a bit of a herb addict. When I was still living in the Netherlands I had a cupboard with sixty pots with herbs. Who ever came by got a tailor made cup of tea: depending on favorite flavor, illness or state of mind. Being here at La Mariposa Spanish school & Eco hotel, one of the first things I did, was creating a herb garden. We already had a vegetable garden, where we grow some herbs, but now we created a herb garden as well. So in a few weeks I’ll be back on my home grown herbal teas again.

I love reading books about herbs and studying their healing qualities. A lot I know by now, the others I just look up. Back home I had a great book: Herbal remedies for Dummies. Whereas most books write about the herb and tell where the herb is good for, this book turns it around as well and explains which herb to take when you are ill. So you can just look up the illness and then find your herb. Makes it a lot easier then going over all the herbs.

One of the goals on my list for ‘this trip’ is to learn more about herbs. To speak with locals who still use herbs as medicine, before the chemical industry took over and brought all pills in. But for now, I’m happy growing a little herb garden again and looking forward to sip from my own herbal tea.
