Yes: I’m flying again. This time I am flying at Sampoorna Yoga in India. Last week I taught my second workshop (see video). This time to the students of the 500 hours Teacher Training Course. It’s so good to do AcroYoga again and to play again.
I ended the class with something I strongly believe in. In Western society we take ourselves and our lives to seriously. We get stuck in our problems, instead of letting go of them. When I was a kid my friends and I would play soccer every afternoon. Just for fun. No referee, just us. Often two of us would get irritated with the other, because the other was playing to hard, according to us. Mostly it was because we couldn’t win. Sometimes it came into a fight. Two people, the rest would just play on. In no time the two would join the game again and afterwards they would go home. As friends. Not even remembering their fight anymore.
Happiness is within
The other things we are to busy with, is acquiring. We want a big house, a big car, an iPad. We want all things that – we think – will give us happiness. But happiness is not in material goods. Happiness is within us.
We might be grown-ups, but that doesn’t say there is no little kid in us anymore. I see myself as a big kid. A kid of 43 years old. I’m still playing. As kids we learned through playing. We learned by falling and getting up again. We tried, it didn’t succeed, so we tried again. As grown ups, we still learn that way. Only instead of just getting up after falling down, we pity ourselves for falling down and we are getting stuck in our emotions. Why? Life is just a game. Get up and play again.
AcroYoga is playing
The beauty of AcroYoga for me that it is playing. It’s yoga, it’s Thai Yoga massage, it’s acrobatics and it’s playing. I might be an old man, but I love playing, I love interacting. Doing AcroYoga is playing, is being a kid again. That is why I love to teach it. And the good thing is: you don’t need anything to do it. Just a partner, maybe a spotter, but that’s it.
If you follow my YouTube channel you will see that I end almost every video I make with a quote of George Bernard Shaw. “We don’t stop playing because we grow old, we grow old, because we stop playing.” I think it’s the best quote ever. So get up, let’s fly and let’s play.
