For me this is Costa Rica’s best smoothie; simple, because it contains all the best Costa Rica has to offer: bananas (of course), pineapples (here as well as in Nicaragua you have this amazing, white pineapple) and mangos. I like a little ‘bite’ in my smoothie, so I always add a piece of ginger, which helps your digestion.
Although the pineapple is pretty good for digestion already, thanks to its fibers and water content. Pineapple is incredible anyway. One cup of fresh pineapple provides 131 percent of your vitamin C needs for the day and it contains magnesium, calcium and potassium, which help to relax your muscles.
- Pineapple (fresh)
- Mango (fresh)
- Banana (fresh)
- Ginger (fresh)
Cut the fruit in pieces, peel the ginger. You can play with the amount of fruit and put either one third of every fruit in or have one fruit dominant; just as you like it today. I always cut off a slice of ginger of about 5 millimeters thick, but I’m a ginger fan. If you are not used to ginger, start slow.
Throw everything in a blender and mix until smooth. You can mix in ice if you like.
I’m going to miss all these beautiful tropical, fresh fruits, when I’m leaving this continent for a while.
